The evening of the cruise third day
We are leaving Gorici town. In the stern Goritskiy Resurrection nunnery is still visible at the foot of the mountain.
Vognemskaya ferry
Church of the Blessed Virgin Nativity in the Vognem village.
With a relatively large width of Sheksna river in this place, the fairway is narrow that's why one can see waves with the ridges on the shoals very near to the ship.
Krohinskaya ferry.
Christmas Church in Krokhino village.
Immediately behind the Church one can see the White Lake.
... and five minutes later we are entering the White Lake.
For a couple of hours we have passed White Lake and entered the Volga-Baltic Canal (former River Kovzha).
To starboard the Candlemas Church in the former Kovzha village.
Right at the entrance of the Volga-Baltic Canal (in his Kovzhinskuyu part) one can see obelisk dedicated to the completion of Mariinskaja system (in the XIX century).
This part of the voyage is the most interesting for me - here, in the wilderness and solitude, the birds are very trustful, so the meeting with eagles, sandpipers is possible at the close distance to them. It's said that there is a high, dry tree in the town Kurdyug (translated ram rear), on which an erne built a nest. Also Kurdyug is an interesting place because it's former detention camp area with its own dock and barracks.
In some places the canal is narrow, with the distance to the shore 10-15 meters.
... and, indeed, in hour after the entrance to the canal, in thirty meters from the ship, we meet eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla, lat.), calmly sitting on the tree. This bird (White-tailed Sea Eagle) I have already met in Moscow region, but more often in flight.
The sun was setting and the chance to take pictures in and around Kurdyug daylight left. But there is hope for the return journey. The cruise third day has ended.
